Butterfly-Embossed Makeup

beauty

Butterflies are naturally synonymous with Spring. After sitting cocooned in sweaters and blankets all winter long, we get out the colorful cosmetics and flutter out at the first signs of sunshine. So it’s fitting that the creatures are showing up in Spring makeup with butterfly imagery stamped right onto eye shadows. Here are two ways to get your butterfly fix.

A few days ago, I introduced you to Luscious Cosmetics, which makes a line of finely milled eye shadows called Social Butterfly Eye Velvets ($19). These delicate, shimmery shades work more like cream shadows, so they won’t crease or feather throughout the day. The eye velvets come in three gorgeous colors: Venice, Malibu, and Hermosa.

Where Do You Color Your Hair?

beauty

After having more than a few disasters at home, I prefer to leave my hair color in the hands of professionals. Even though there are new formulas and options for the DIY route, I can never get the color quite the way I want it. But that seems to be more due to my clumsiness than anything else; some of my friends have beautiful highlights, and you’d never guess that they paint them on themselves. What about you? Do you color your hair at home, or do you head to the salon?

Eva's Happy Hearts Makeup Look

beauty

At the Happy Hearts charity benefit hosted by Petra Nemcova, Eva Mendes showed up looking absolutely gorgeous. She’s the kind of gal you want to hate for being so effortlessly beautiful, but she’s so sweet and goofy that you can’t help but love her.

Her glowing skin was a perfect contrast to her flowy white gown, her pink lips added life to her bright smile, and her slightly smoky eyes dressed up her look for evening. And let’s not forget the perfectly groomed strong brows that give definition to the frame of her face.

Envy

beauty

If envy is one of the seven deadly sins, I’ve got no shot at redemption. Cosmetics companies know that when it comes to making money, cute, clever and kitschy names help bring in the bucks. Check out these three amazing makeup products that will surely turn you green with envy too!

Jealous much of my new Urban Decay Lip Envy ($17). How could I resist? This range of gel-texture and long-lasting lip stains dry to a matte finish, yet they still help moisturize dry, chapped lips.

information and opinion

beauty

My best friend has thick, very wavy hair, but you’d never guess it from looking at her. That’s because she goes in for Japanese thermal conditioning, a treatment that leaves hair straight for months. Now I have to tell her about a newer process from Brazil called escova progressiva. According to the New York Times, it can be used on most hair types, even color-treated hair. And now it has migrated from South America to the States.

Quercus Unisex Cologne by Penhaligon's

beauty

We all know how difficult it is to find a great fragrance, and finding a unisex fragrance worth buying has become even more challenging. Come to think of it, ever since the launch of CK One in 1994, I don’t think I’ve managed to find anything comparable. I’m not saying that Quercus by Penhaligon’s is tops, but I really did like it and my guy liked it too — so guess what I’ll be buying for the holidays?

Do You Prefer Posh As a Blond or Brunette?

beauty

Victoria Beckham changes her hair color so often, it’s hard to keep up! I really like her naturally dark hair (enhanced, of course, so that’s it’s a deep, rich brown) like we see here at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, yet I feel like she favors the traffic stopping blond shade pictured at a friend’s book launch party. Currently, she’s a brunette, which I hope is here to stay, and who knows, perhaps the bleach was just part of an attempt to fit in out in Los Angeles. Which hair color do you think is spicier on Posh?

MAC Prep and Prime SPF 50

beauty

Primers are nothing new, but the SPF 50 sun-protection in this just-released MAC Cosmetics product stopped me in my tracks. Called Prep and Prime ($26.50), this multi-tasking potion acts as a moisturizer, a primer, and a sunscreen, so you can cut out a couple of steps.

All you need is a small amount, and it absorbs very quickly. Simply apply it after you wash your face and wait a couple of seconds before you begin your makeup routine. Another bonus: It contains oil-absorbing powder to help keep you looking matte all day.
