Last month I mentioned that Cargo is coming out with blu_ray, a new collection of makeup specifically intended for people who have to go on high-definition TV broadcasts. Because HDTV is so much sharper than regular television, it has the unfortunate tendency to display every pimple, scar, wrinkle, and imperfection in glorious detail. Hence the demand for makeup that provides full coverage without looking cakey.
blu_ray attemps to solve this problem by using irregularly sized particles to diffuse and soften light, along with pigment that reflects light from different angles. The collection includes a liquid mattifier ($24), oil-free pressed powder, mascara ($20), a peachy pink blush/highlighter ($27), and mint-infused lip gloss quad ($29). Each product can be bought separately, or if you can’t get enough of them, they’re available in a good-value set ($59). It’s not the biggest collection Cargo’s ever done, but it’s the first makeup I’ve seen that’s specifically being developed for a new television technology.
